Strengthening Youth and Community through Art (SYCA) at the Bradford Arts Centre kicks off Sunday March 18th at 7 pm, during an inspirational night with Dr. Ivan Joseph, Ryerson University Athletic Director and performance/ motivation professional http://www.keynotes.org/speaker/Dr.IvanJoseph .
Dr. Joseph will be speaking on the relationship between self-confidence and success from a youth perspective.
SYCA offers a weekly outreach to youth 14+ at the Bradford Arts Centre, providing a safe space for self-expression, building creative capacities and connecting to opportunities. Youth will hang out, cook together, and explore visual, musical, and performance art with professionals, three nights a week, in July/August.
SYCA’s goals are to:
Empower Young People to Lead.
• Supporting young people to develop their own programming and opportunities through the arts builds their skills and confidence.
Provide Low-Barrier Access to Opportunities.
• Addressing both tangible and intangible barriers ensures that the program’s opportunities will be available to all youth in Bradford.
Strengthen Community Capacity.
Deepening the local network of artists and fostering connections with Arts Mentors, ensures long term benefits, not just in art production but also in building social connectivity in the community.
The community can help get SYCA off and running by getting the word out and coming to the kickoff event Sunday March 18th at 7 pm, 66 Barrie St. in Bradford with Dr Ivan Joseph, and by donating good quality musical instruments and artist’s supplies, Strengthening Youth and Community through Art. Tickets $20 adult, $10 students. Call 905-751-5335 for tickets.
Stay tuned for more of these exciting musical events in the upcoming months!
